Hannath Estate Agents raised £3600 in 2014 to build a well providing clean water to 1000 villagers in the rural districts of war torn Northern Uganda.
The Facts
The Need
Each year we at Hannath as a team pull together to raise funds for a worthwhile cause. Our chosen charity in 2014 was Fields of Life.
Fields of Life is an international development charity founded in 1993 and aims to see meaningful and real change occur in the lives of whole communities in East Africa through holistic and sustainable development. The charity is committed to collaborating with local communities and churches in East Africa to bring about positive change through the provision of quality education, clean water, health promotion and other community based initiatives. The work has expanded beyond Uganda with project work undertaken in Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.
Hannath’s aim was to achieve our target of £3,600 enough to build a well in a remote Uganda village. This was something that we felt was a great cause as it represented a basic central community need.
We always as a company want to be community centred and focus on our clients as individuals. So as part of our fund raising efforts we decided to donate £25 from every new property registration, during our campaign, allowing our clients to know that in using Hannath their money was going to a good cause!!
We realised that the team were going to have to complete a challenge worthy of raising funds for such a worthy cause!! So we decided to complete the Giants Causeway Coast Sportive.
Twelve of the team at Hannath took part in the annual Giants Causeway Coast Sportive on Saturday September 13.
Taking on the breathtakingly hilly Causeway Coastal route. Not a regular cyclist amongst us – some had not actually been on a bike since childhood. The team after doing some training, albeit along the tow path to Newry and back! Felt sure we would make it through.
Our group set off in beautiful sunshine to tackle a 57km route, taking us through the stunning Antrim Glens and Causeway Coast, including the “Game of thrones” Dark Hedges – truly stunning!
With the combination of fabulous scenery, amazing weather, sheer determination and a lot of chocolate we all completed the course! A little bike trouble and a few injuries couldn’t hold us back, all returning successfully, in one piece to the finish line and indeed our target thanks to the sponsorship of our family, friends, clients and professional colleagues!
